Canvas Tents for Generations
Canvas tents recommended by the Scouts Association and known throughout the generations.
Founded in 1861 on the banks of the River Clyde, Black’s of Greenock built an undisputed reputation for using quality materials and making durable products that last; values that continue throughout our tents to this day.
A former sailor, Thomas Black crafted sails; cutting and stitching large pieces of fabric to make hardy sails that would withstand continued use in the toughest sea conditions. This expertise, working with fabric that would be exposed to the worst weather, gave Black’s of Greenock the optimum skills required to make durable canvas tents and shelters.
Black’s of Greenock tents continue to be designed and assembled in our Glasgow factory. Our routes are still firmly on the Clyde with our head office in Port Glasgow.
Our range are manufactured using heavy duty 12oz superior grade cotton canvas, proofed to exceed British Standard requirements for Water resistance and also Mildew/Rot resistance. All seams are double sewn on triple thickness for strength and improved water resistance. Stress points are all reinforced whilst reinforcing bands are fitted to prevent friction damage from the ridge poles.
Many of the components are the original design, meaning you can replace a flysheet, poles or pegs and know they'll fit. All our products are designed and manufactured to exacting standards and are guaranteed for the end purpose intended.
A recent addition to our collection is the Solace Bell Tent; traditional canvas bell tents that beautifully balance the old and the new. With features such as a fully removable inner tent, it is easy to see why these bell tents are a hit with traditional campers and glampers alike.
Black’s of Greenock is now part of the AMG Group family of brands that includes Vango, Lichfield, Rossignol, Anatom, Teko, Trangia and Wayfayrer.
