Our History

Way back in 1861 Thomas Black decided to end his sea-faring days and set up a sail-making business on the River Clyde as Blacks of Greenock.

Success followed for many years but, as Britain's shipping fleets moved from sail to steam, Blacks of Greenock gradually evolved into making canvas tents and sleeping bags.

Fast forward to the present and all the heritage of those original tents and sleeping bags is just as evident in the quality, durability and value for money of the updated designs still being made in our Glasgow factory today.

Blacks of Greenock the tent of choice for literally thousands of Scouts, Guides & Boys Brigades over the last 75 years.
